Nottingham Skillset Media Academy: Employer Engagement Event

Calling all East Midlands media professionals!

Nottingham Skillset Media Academy would like to invite you to their annual Employer Engagement Event. The Academy welcomes contact with companies and individuals from across the region, so come along for drinks and canapés to be introduced to the Nottingham Skillset Media Academy and some of its initiatives for the next year.

What is meant by 'employer engagement'?
In this context ‘business/ employer engagement’ refers to business engaging with educators and institutions charged with the responsibility of preparing young people for the world of work.  This engagement results in both direct and indirect impact upon young people’s readiness to meet the needs of business and their employer/s right from the start of their working life.
‘Business’ includes organisations of all sizes and sectors (including the voluntary sector and education sector), and freelance artists, who can provide a real-word context to learning. There are a range of specialisms in the media industries, which are reflected in the Academy’s courses. The Academy wishes to widen its network for industry consultation, work based learning opportunities, visiting speakers, continuing professional development for staff and students.

Creating an Enterprise Culture
Enterprise is a about a set of behaviours and attitudes that underpin an individual’s approach to life’s challenges and opportunities.  If Academy courses are truly to reflect the needs of business and to help young people succeed in the workplace all aspects of its relationships with employers need to reflect the enterprise outcomes. Opportunities to incorporate business understanding, financial ability, and Enterprise Capability, are about the mind-set of the deliverer, as well as the learner.

Enterprise Capability defined as:
“the ability to handle uncertainty and respond positively to change, to create and implement new ideas and ways of doing things, to make reasonable risk/reward assessments and act upon them in one's personal and working life”
The Howard Davies Report, 2002.

Join the Academy for the evening to influence training for the media industries.
