Fine Art @ NTU presents the Live Lecture Series
Alun Williams
Alun Williams, a British artist known for his work on the notion of the portrait, continues to investigate illusion or resemblance in painting. And what if a spillage of colour, for example, was able to project the presence of a character more powerfully than if the potraitist had composed a conventional reproduction?
Alun is also a curator who has initiated and run residency programs in Europe and the USA.
He attended Goldsmith's College in the late 80s and exhibited notably at that time with Maureen Paley and at the Museums of Stoke-on-Trent and Peterborough. In 1992 he set up La Vigie, in Nimes, France - an innovatory non-profit exhibition venue. By 1993 he had joined the Board of Directors of the Triangle Arts Association in New York and became involved in developing their global network, notably as the founder of Triangle's international residency and exhibition program in Marseille, France. In 2000, he was the founder of the experimental gallery Parker's Box, in Brooklyn, New York.
Recent exhibitions of his work include those at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice, France (2008-2009) and Galerie Anne Barrault in Paris (2009).
Please be seated at 11am sharp - first come first served basis.
