News: Adult Summer Schools at NTU

New and exciting possibilities for study this summer at Nottingham Trent University’s Art & Design Summer School. The Summer Schools are running from 1st July - 8th August and have an exciting programme of short courses.   We have a range of courses which we feel will interest you whether your wanting to undertake a new area of interest, extend your professional practice, or simply divert your brain with a new challenge. We will be running the following programmes aimed at professionals: 3D Modelling for Games Film and Animation (£270)The course will provide an excellent introduction to the skills and considerations required for 3D visualisation.  Using tasks and tutorials 3D modelling for Film, Games and 3D animation will be covered.  No familiarity with Studio Max is expected. Target Audience:      Those interested in 3D but not necessarily any experienceCourse Dates:          7-9th July 2008Location:                Waverley Building, City Site The Director and the Actor (£175)The student begins to explore the place of trust in the relationship between actor and director.  They also shape a script through improvisation and rehearsal. Target Audience:      Professional Course Dates:           7-8th July 2008 Location:                Waverley Building, City Site Introduction to Shoot and Edit (£250)First time film-makers!  Need advice to get you started?  Using quality broadcast DV equipment and Premiere Pro, this practical, hands-on course will take you through the shoot and edit stages of the filmmaking process. Target Audience:      Amateur Film MakerCourse Dates:          14-16th July 2008 Location:                Waverley Building, City Site Shoot and Edit: Advanced (£450)Make your own film.  This active workshop involves people in creative thinking, hands-on practice and analytical reflection.  Using real actors, high quality broadcast equipment and Final Cut Pro, this course will give you practical experience and teach the fundamentals of filmmaking.  Topics covered; White balance, focus, exposure, production team roles, lighting and the use of Final Cut Pro. Target Audience:      Amateur Film MakerCourse Dates:          21-25th July 2008 Location:                Waverley Building, City Site  FlashAction 3 (£225)The course will take students from an initial basic knowledge of the FLASH authoring environment to being able to create dynamic, interactive and media rich presentations using the latest ActionScript 3.  This course is also suitable for those converting from ActionScript 2 to the latest ActionScript 3.  Students create a simple interactive Flash presentation programmed extensively in ActionScript. Target Audience:      Amateur – Basic knowledge of Flash requiredCourse Dates:          14 -16th July 2008Location:                Waverley Building, City Site Hand Draughting for the Entertainment Industry (£800)This 10 day course is for people who wish to pencil draught and would like to know how to understand and layout technical drawings or raise their already existing skills.  It will cover the different aspects of film and television draughting, set elevations, plans, details and props through to Theatre, Exhibition and Conference. Target Audience:      Anyone with a design degree or with a keen interest in                                 aspects of the entertainment world who may wish to work in                     the industry, particularly in design.Course Dates:          28th July – 8th August 2008Location:                Waverley Building, City Site Getting the most from your camcorder (£150)An introduction to basic film making principles to plan and shoot professional clips that can then be captured and edited into a narrative sequence using industry standard Apple Final Cut Pro. This course aims to give you a hands-on understanding of video camera operation and the primary features of Apple Final Cut Pro with the view to producing your own short film. Target Audience:      Amateur film- makersCourse Dates:          21 – 23rd July 2008Location:                Bonington Building, City Site Photoshop and Digital Printing for Photographers (£250)This workshop will help participants to understand how their digital camera works, and how to use their digital files.  Through a series of practical sessions using their own images, students will learn how to get the best from their camera and how to use Photoshop.   They will also learn how to take their digital files (including RAW files) to create professional quality prints, a skill they will be also be apply on their own printer at home. Target Audience:      Amateur photographersCourse Dates:          16 – 18th July 2008Location:                Bonington Building, City Site Using Flash to design websites on the Mac (£250)An intermediate course for those who already have some basic understanding of building a website. The course aims to further develop their skills; teaching students how incorporate Adobe Flash elements into a website and giving them an understanding of how to use the software to add interactive graphics and animation into a project.
