NewsNews: UK Government to publish Strategy Document on the Creative Economy January 2008
21/12/07
Creative Industries Strategy to be published in January 2008? There has been a change to the title and form of the Green Paper on the Creative Economy. The Government now intend to publish a "Strategy Document" rather than a Green Paper. The main significance of the change is that the document will set out actual commitments for action rather than a series of proposals for further consultation. We intend for the strategy document to be published in January During the CEP process Ministers and officials have undertaken a substantial programme of consultation with every part of the creative industries. We are confident that there has been the opportunity to discuss the majority of the issues confronting the industry, and it is now right for the Government and partners to begin to take specific actions. The Strategy Paper will now set out the areas where more needs to be done to help the creative industries to reach their full potential. There is a role here for Government, both at national and regional level, but there is also a strong role here for the industries themselves to play. We will aim to set out a range of initiatives, whether public sector, private sector or joint, that will help to drive the creative industries forward.
