Your opportunity to work with experienced curators and an important museum collection whilst gaining a Masters qualification

  • Would you like the opportunity to work with an important collection of historical costumes and textiles?
  • Would you like to be awarded a scholarship to gain a Masters qualification from a leading school of Art and Design?
  • Would you like to develop your interest in the re-use, repair and recycling of garments and textiles?
  • Would you like to help develop and shape a public exhibition?

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) School of Art & Design and Nottingham City Museums and Galleries (NCMG) enjoy a long history of collaboration and education. Together they are offering the opportunity for an art practitioner, educator or curator to work closely with the Visual Arts team ofNCMG under the supervision of academic staff at NTU, to conduct research into the city's important collection of costume and textiles, leading to the development and contributing to the curation ofa public exhibition.

You could use your knowledge of, and enthusiasm for textiles to:

  • examine repaired and adapted textiles in the context of contemporary debates about sustainability, obsolescence and disposability;
  • demonstrate the relevance of NCMG's collections to contemporary art and design practice;
  • illustrate how NCMG's collections can be used to advance academic understanding for the benefit of the wider community;
  • work as part of a team to inform the development of a public exhibition, to be staged at Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery;
  • gain a Masters qualification from Nottingham Trent University School of Art & Design

A scholarship to the value of the full Masters course fee (£4400) is available to a suitable candidate wishing to undertake this project.
